Join Esk Valley Dog Training – Where Kindness Leads the Way

Are you stressed out being a self employed dog trainer?

Worrying month to month how to pay your bills?

Need the support, kindness and development from a brilliant team?

Still want to retain the flexibility of self employment?

This might just be the best form you ever filled in. Are you right for our team? Read on...

At Esk Valley Dog Training, we believe that dogs and their people deserve training rooted in kindness, ethics, and integrity. We don’t cut corners, we don’t use quick-fix gimmicks, and we don’t compromise on welfare. Our approach is modern, reward-based, and science-led — but above all, it’s compassionate.

We’re not just here to “fix” dogs. We’re here to support families, build confidence, and create lasting change that makes life better for both ends of the lead. That means we take the time to listen, to understand, and to do what’s right — even when it’s not the fastest or easiest path.

If you’re the kind of person who:

  • Puts animal welfare and owner trust above everything else
  • Believes in patience, empathy, and clear communication
  • Wants to work with a business that chooses integrity over ego
  • Gets genuine satisfaction from seeing owners succeed through kindness

…then you’ll feel at home with us.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for shortcuts, dominance-based methods, or a “one size fits all” approach, this won’t be the place for you. We’re building a team that reflects our values — and our reputation depends on it.

At Esk Valley Dog Training, you’ll be joining a small, growing, community-rooted business with a strong local name. You’ll have space to learn, to contribute your own strengths, and to grow with us. Most importantly, you’ll be part of something that genuinely makes a difference.

This is more than a job. It’s a way of working with dogs that you can be proud of.

Some of your questions answered

How will you be paid?

You'll be paid for every training appointment you complete at a premium rate for your expertise. Don't worry if your expertise isn't there yet, Nick and the team will support your growth and development. there will be opportunities for shadowing and team training days as well as ongoing discussion and case studies to work on, as a team, together.

You'll work on a freelance/ self employed basis which means you choose the hours you work, the hours you don't and have complete flexibility over your holidays and time off. the premium rate payment is far above your earning potential in comparison to contracted employment

Whats the work-life balance like?

As well as being in full control of your working hours, you will be encouraged to look after yourself and your work life balance. Nick has a long career in Leadership before Esk Valley Dog Training and consistently delivered the highest of scores in employee surveys. This is down to core values of listening, care and support. You will be part of a team that has kindness at its heart and looks out for each other.

Can I choose what training I do?

Yes. 100%. You will be encouraged to identify and pursue your specialism in the types of cases and dogs you work for. Pursuing your speciality in dog training will not only make you happy, you will continually get better at what you do, giving you a great sense of purpose.

What do I have to do outside training sessions?

You will have the opportunity to attend team meetings and engage with the rest of the team in training days and reviewing case studies. This is optional. You will spend five to ten minutes preparing for each training session and spend five to ten minutes after each session sending your client their training notes. And, of course you will have travel time between appointments.

Will I be required to do a specific number of appointments each week?

No, you will have full control over your hours of work, however little or how many you want to do.

What if my own values don't sit with Esk Valley Dog Training?

Our core values are kindness, ethics and integrity. We are compassionate and only use reward based methods with our clients. If your values don't sit with ours, please don't apply because you wont fit in and you will be unhappy in your role.

Can I use this as a stepping stone to set up my own dog training business?

Yes, all we ask is that your are up front and honest about this from the get-go. In the future we can collaborate and work together to support each other in our future businesses.

Who does the running and marketing of the business, do I have to get involved in that?

Only a little, Nick does all the running of the business and that is his main role outside working with his long time members and reactive dog owners. All you will be asked to do is help with pictures and training videos. But don't worry if you are not ready for that. It is optional and the team will help you grow and develop. When you feel you are confident and ready to do that, great. In the meantime its important we get you onboard and enjoying your time with your clients and their dogs.
